Consensus Building: An agreement made by all.
Mediation works. A process used by small to large groups, consensus building includes multiple outside parties and stakeholders in decision-making on tasks, projects, and proposals. The results are an increase in cooperation and group cohesion, and creation of deeper meaning and definition of the organization’s values and mission. Participant adherence to, and implementation of, a consensus built agreement is greater from benefiting from a process that has solicited and shared ideas, fostered equal input, and promotes going beyond personal preference to necessity. A successful majority decision may be considered three quarters of participants in agreement, with those outside the majority being satisfied.
